Leader’s Debate
Thursday, April 22nd, 2010
With ten minutes to go of the second leadership debate, I have to say, I’m surprised by how interesting it’s been. David Cameron has been too nervous to do well, Gordon Brown came out fighting early but tired as the sparring continued. I’m not convinced by Nick Clegg, though - he’s all smarm and charm, style over substance - yet he is coming across as Brown’s main and most dangerous political opponent.
I wonder if in the next election, for the sake of upping the entertainment ante, the leaders could mix up the debates with gladiator style contests. They could have a quick chat about pensions then tear off their suits to reveal Lycra running gear and race up a massive bouncy climbing wall as people fire foam rockets at them. First to the top gets 1000 free votes. Then go immediately into a speedy spat about education before battering at each other with giant cotton buds.
