Great Places To Write (Part One - In Malaysia)

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

While I do most of my writing in the kitchen now, hunched over the breakfast bar, back in the day I wrote in loads of different places. I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic recently, so thought I’d compile my own sort of travel guide, on inspiring places to sit and write. Or at least to sit and think about writing.

First up, the Geographer, in Malacca in Malaysia.

Geographer Cafe, 83 Jalan Hang Jebat, Malacca, Malaysia

Geographer Cafe, 83 Jalan Hang Jebat, Malacca, Malaysia

This stunning cafe/bar overlooks Jalan Hang Jebat, a busy hubbub at night, but a sleepy shop-lined road in the heat of the day. Upstairs, you can stare out at Jonkers Street below, or look at the maps and pictures on the walls.

A great place to write or simply to cool down while exploring Malacca, which was easily my favourite town in Malaysia. The cafe has been used as a location in several TV adverts and documentaries.
